{"id":97,"date":"2008-04-01T21:37:30","date_gmt":"2008-04-02T01:37:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.payne.org\/2008\/04\/01\/whos-obsessed-about-your-product-details\/"},"modified":"2008-04-01T21:37:30","modified_gmt":"2008-04-02T01:37:30","slug":"whos-obsessed-about-your-product-details","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/payne.org\/blog\/whos-obsessed-about-your-product-details\/","title":{"rendered":"Who&#8217;s obsessed about your product details?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Great products rarely come about through\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Design_by_committee\">committee design<\/a>. \u00a0I&#8217;ve never seen it myself &#8212; behind every great product, there&#8217;s always been one or two obsessed people.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s not enough just to be obsessed, you&#8217;ve got to be obsessed about <span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\">details<\/span>. \u00a0Most people can&#8217;t or won&#8217;t get into the details. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0From time to time, I send feedback to friends about their products and Web sites, some of it really really specific. \u00a0One recent one was about date selection from a calendar: \u00a0on a two-month-wide pop-up, they could have optimized the &#8220;end&#8221; date selection a bit better based on a chosen &#8220;start&#8221; date, when the start date was at or near a month boundary.<\/p>\n<p>Are you rolling your eyes yet?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is how great products happen, one little bit of obsessed detail at a time.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Great products rarely come about through\u00a0committee design. \u00a0I&#8217;ve never seen it myself &#8212; behind every great product, there&#8217;s always been one or two obsessed people.
