{"id":52,"date":"2007-11-30T12:48:08","date_gmt":"2007-11-30T16:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.payne.org\/2007\/11\/30\/chumby-i-dont-yet-get-it\/"},"modified":"2007-11-30T12:48:08","modified_gmt":"2007-11-30T16:48:08","slug":"chumby-i-dont-yet-get-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/payne.org\/blog\/chumby-i-dont-yet-get-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Chumby:  I don&#8217;t (yet) get it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I bought a <a href=\"http:\/\/\">Chumby<\/a> to play with &#8212; I don&#8217;t quite get it.\u00a0 Yet.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an alarm-clock sized device, with a color touch LCD display.\u00a0 It displays Flash widgets you select in a continuous cycle, typically for 20-30 seconds per widget.\u00a0 My widget set:\u00a0 clock, weather widget, stock quote widget, and a few others.\u00a0 Widgets can be interactive, using the touch screen for input.\u00a0 You configure things on the Web, and the device downloads the config.<\/p>\n<p>I was attracted to the openness:\u00a0 full source code, etc.\u00a0 I have a few ideas for displaying info from my home phone switch, my alarm system, etc.<\/p>\n<p>But as configured, its sort of like a tiny version of the business waiting room display or Captivate displays in elevators, cycling through &#8220;stuff&#8221; to keep me occupied while I wait.\u00a0 But in my home or office, that use isn&#8217;t\u00a0 helpful.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I&#8217;m missing something?\u00a0 More thinking required.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I bought a Chumby to play with &#8212; I don&#8217;t quite get it.\u00a0 Yet.
