{"id":367,"date":"2011-06-22T13:58:49","date_gmt":"2011-06-22T17:58:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.payne.org\/?p=367"},"modified":"2011-06-22T13:58:49","modified_gmt":"2011-06-22T17:58:49","slug":"turntable-fm-and-the-itunes-era","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/payne.org\/blog\/turntable-fm-and-the-itunes-era\/","title":{"rendered":"Turntable.fm and the iTunes Era"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I <strong>love<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/turntable.fm\">turntable.fm<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a well-executed simple app offering virtual music &#8220;rooms&#8221;. \u00a0You can just listen, or be one of 5 DJs selecting songs for that room. \u00a0It&#8217;s a fun way to share music with friends and co-workers. \u00a0It&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.appdata.com\/apps\/facebook\/127146244018710-turntable\">taking off<\/a> fast.<\/p>\n<p>I think we&#8217;re entering the next chapter for music, following the iTunes era, and it&#8217;s all about social. \u00a0Apple&#8217;s Ping service has the right social buzzwords, but isn&#8217;t quite right. Turntable.fm is dead on for one aspect of social music, and Facebook has <a href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/2011\/06\/19\/revealed-facebook%E2%80%99s-music-plans-involve-spotify-others\/\">big plans<\/a> for music.<\/p>\n<p>(And if Facebook is smart, they acquire Turntable.fm now or just copy the feature. Unfortunately, I don&#8217;t think Turntable.fm lasts independently &amp; competitive long-term; it&#8217;s so obvious that it should be part of Facebook).<\/p>\n<p>It will be interesting to see how Apple reacts. \u00a0Is the iTunes era ending?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I love turntable.fm.
