{"id":235,"date":"2009-06-01T09:21:45","date_gmt":"2009-06-01T13:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.payne.org\/?p=235"},"modified":"2009-06-01T09:21:45","modified_gmt":"2009-06-01T13:21:45","slug":"email-evolved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/payne.org\/blog\/email-evolved\/","title":{"rendered":"Email, Evolved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have a long-running discussion with a number of friends:\u00a0 what&#8217;s next for email?<\/p>\n<p>After all, email hasn&#8217;t changed much in the past few decades.\u00a0 Email readers have gotten slightly better over the years, with improved multimedia handling, searching, threading, calendar integration, etc.\u00a0 In a lot of ways, email clients have been just good enough (e.g. Outlook) there haven&#8217;t been huge incentive for breakthroughs.<\/p>\n<p>Also, instant messaging has overlapped with email.\u00a0 How many times have you had a quick email exchange, then opened IM\/chat to finish the discussion?\u00a0 Some exchanges are interactive, and don&#8217;t lend themselves to an email message format.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure if <a href=\"http:\/\/wave.google.com\/\">Google Wave<\/a> will &#8220;catch&#8221;, but it&#8217;s the first thing I&#8217;ve seen in a long time that could be the evolution of email.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a long-running discussion with a number of friends:\u00a0 what&#8217;s next for email?
