{"id":151,"date":"2009-02-09T18:36:38","date_gmt":"2009-02-09T22:36:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.payne.org\/?p=151"},"modified":"2009-02-09T18:36:38","modified_gmt":"2009-02-09T22:36:38","slug":"notebook-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/payne.org\/blog\/notebook-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Notebook time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I sometimes use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.codealchemists.com\/jdarkroom\/\">JDarkroom <\/a>for writing.\u00a0 It blanks out the screen, giving only monospaced text, letting you focus on words (not formatting, the clock, the weather, email, surfing, or blog reading).<\/p>\n<p>But when I need to <strong>think<\/strong>, turning off the computer entirely and writing on paper seems to work best (I like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/8883701135?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=andrewpayne&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=8883701135&quot;&gt;Moleskine Squared Notebook Large&lt;\/a&gt;&lt;img src=&quot;http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=andrewpayne&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=8883701135\">large squared Moleskine <\/a>notebooks).\u00a0 It goes everywhere, boots instantly, and never crashes.\u00a0 Because my writing bandwidth is much lower than my typing bandwidth, I focus more on thoughts than words.<\/p>\n<p>For creative thinking, I also find it helps to shake up my surroundings.\u00a0 I like leaving the office and going to a restaurant, coffee shop, library, museum, etc.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve even made excellent &#8220;think time&#8221; out of waiting at the dr&#8217;s office, waiting to pick up the car with new tires, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Try scheduling some notebook time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I sometimes use JDarkroom for writing.\u00a0 It blanks out the screen, giving only monospaced text, letting you focus on words (not formatting, the clock, the weather, email, surfing, or blog reading).
