{"id":109,"date":"2008-07-10T08:58:32","date_gmt":"2008-07-10T12:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.payne.org\/2008\/07\/10\/os-document-scanning-support\/"},"modified":"2008-07-10T08:58:32","modified_gmt":"2008-07-10T12:58:32","slug":"os-document-scanning-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/payne.org\/blog\/os-document-scanning-support\/","title":{"rendered":"OS Document Scanning Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wish operating systems had native document scanning support.<\/p>\n<p>I bought a scanner years ago in an attempt to manage paper load:\u00a0 scan to PDF, electronically file, and shred the original. \u00a0 It&#8217;s a great feeling to find an important document electronically, instead of sorting through reams of paper (and then having to scan it).<\/p>\n<p>I just want simple &#8220;scan to PDF&#8221; &#8212; why are the tools <strong>so bad<\/strong>?\u00a0 The software supplied with my scanner stopped working one day (on Windows &#8212; it just went to permanent hourglass).\u00a0 I gave up trying to fix it, and turned to the world of $20 scan-to-PDF applications, most of which are pretty crappy.<\/p>\n<p>Am I missing some easy solution?<\/p>\n<p>I remember the days when sound cards were add-ons:\u00a0 driver hell, version conflicts, limited app support, etc.\u00a0 Apple and Microsoft:\u00a0 please provide bundled, well-designed, and well-integrated document scanning!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wish operating systems had native document scanning support.
